Training, exams and certification
Fifty questions in forty minutes, closed book, twenty-five to pass. Under a minute a question: the exam rewards knowing the vocabulary of the framework cold.

The APMG AgilePM Foundation certificate checks that you understand the Agile Project Framework well enough to work in an agile project team: its philosophy, principles, lifecycle, roles, products and techniques.
| Questions | 50, multiple choice, one mark each |
|---|---|
| Duration | 40 minutes |
| Pass mark | 50% — 25 correct answers out of 50 |
| Materials | Closed book |
| Version | AgilePM v3 |
| Prerequisites | None |
| Typical course | Two days |
Forty minutes for fifty questions leaves less than a minute each. The questions are short, but there is no time to reason your way to a definition: you recognise the term or you do not.
The pass mark, 50%, is forgiving. The time limit is not. Most candidates who fail run out of minutes, not knowledge.
Expect questions on every part of the framework:
| Philosophy and principles | The eight principles, from “focus on the business need” to “demonstrate control”, and the instrumental success factors |
|---|---|
| Lifecycle | Pre-Project, Feasibility, Foundations, Evolutionary Development, Deployment and Post-Project |
| Roles | Business Sponsor, Business Visionary, Technical Coordinator, Project Manager, Team Leader, Business Ambassador, Solution Developer, Solution Tester and the supporting roles |
| Products | What each product is for and when it is produced, including the Project Approach Questionnaire |
| Techniques | MoSCoW prioritization, timeboxing, iterative development, facilitated workshops, modelling |
| Planning and control | Fixed time and cost, flexing features, estimating and tracking progress |
Business Sponsor, Business Visionary and Business Ambassador all represent the business, at different levels. Questions that ask who makes a day-to-day decision, who owns the vision and who holds the budget are where most marks are lost.
Make a one-page map of the roles and their responsibilities, learn MoSCoW and the timebox structure by heart, then practise with timed sets of fifty. If you finish a set in thirty minutes, you are ready.
