Training, exams and certification
Two exams, one hundred questions, three and a half hours, open book, 70% in each — and English only. It is the fast track to ITIL® v5 Managing Professional for people who already hold ITIL 4 MP or ITIL v3 Expert, and its main exam squeezes three modules into sixty questions.

Taken one by one, Product, Service and Experience are three exams of forty questions, ninety minutes each: 120 questions in four and a half hours. The Transition route asks the same ground in sixty questions and two hours.
That is the whole point of the route — and the trap in it. Half the questions means each one carries more of the syllabus: there is no area you can afford to leave thin because “there will only be a couple of questions on it”. And the clock is tighter than in the single modules: 120 seconds a question instead of 135, with the book open on the desk.
The margin is eighteen wrong answers out of sixty. It sounds generous until you notice it is the same 30% as everywhere else in the scheme, spread over three modules’ worth of content.
PeopleCert describes the Transition syllabus in five areas:
The first four belong to the Product, Service, Experience exam. The fifth is the second exam, and it is the same ITIL Transformation (Version 5) exam taken by everyone on the standard route. What it asks, area by area, is in our ITIL® v5 Transformation exam guide.
The route exists because ITIL 4 Managing Professional holders already know value streams, the service value system and the practices. That is the part of the paper you can read fast.
What is new is the language of ITIL (Version 5): products and services as one lifecycle, experience as a discipline of its own, and AI running through every area. Questions are written in that vocabulary. An answer that is good ITIL 4 practice but uses the old framing is often the distractor.
Accredited training is part of the certification, not a recommendation. The Transition route requires an Accredited Training Organization or ITIL Official eLearning, and PeopleCert states that exam results will not be released without proof of completion.
That is why a stand-alone exam bundle only makes sense for a re-sit. For a first attempt, the course is what unlocks the result.
Choose the order deliberately. The order is free. Most candidates with an ITIL 4 MP background find Product, Service, Experience the more familiar of the two; Transformation is built around a named model that has to be learned from scratch.
Rehearse at 120 seconds a question. Sixty questions in two hours leaves little room for searching the book. Tab the eBooks by area before the exam, and look up only what you can find in seconds.
Rehearse in English. Both papers are in English. If your course was delivered in another language, switch your practice to English well before the exam, so the terminology does not cost you time on the day.
Do not treat it as a refresher. Half the questions of the standard route does not mean half the syllabus.
Only holders of ITIL 4 Managing Professional, ITIL 4 Master, ITIL v3 Expert or ITIL v3 Master. Everyone else reaches the ITIL® v5 Managing Professional designation through the individual modules.

The Transition route cannot be self-studied: without proof of an accredited course your results are never released. eLearning is the package that satisfies the rule — the ITIL Official eLearning itself, with the official eBooks, both exam vouchers, the Learning Resource Kit and auto-marked sample papers. eLearning+ adds the Official Mock Exams and a free re-take. The Exam Bundle is for re-sits only.
